Nirim Ma'on Recreation Area

Ancient History Restorations

Remains of a beautiful synagogue mosaic dating back to the first century were discovered in Magen Forest in the western Negev, near Kibbutz Nirim. The synagogue was part of ancient Ma’on, a mixed Jewish and Christian town that was a regional military and rural center. JNF is restoring the beautiful ancient mosaic floor with a generous donation from JNF Canada. Additional plans include a large recreation area to accommodate visitors to the ancient synagogue in the surrounding forest. The site will include paths, a picnic area, special play equipment and explanatory signage.
