Ancient History Restorations
This is a large archaeological site in the heart of the Yatir Forest. It has caves, fences, cisterns and other excavated facilities. Remains of an ancient synagogue that existed from the 4th century BC to the 8th century were found at the site. At the top of the site is a structure that was a fort in the time of the Judean Kingdom. Other remains include caves that served as residences and a hiding cave system. Near the site is a large burial ground. Northwest of the Jewish settlement are remains of a Christian settlement whose remains are in a planted grove west of the community of Shani. JNF is planning to restore the site and open it to the public. Development will include a trail network, sitting areas and explanatory signs.
