Join the Global Celebration of Israel’s 60th Anniversary with JNF

November 19, 2007 -- New York, NY -- People who take pride in the development of the State of Israel and are looking to be a part of this exciting time in history as people from around the world celebrate the achievement of Israel’s 60th birthday together, need look no further than Jewish National Fund (JNF) to plan their itinerary.

Join JNF on its 60th Anniversary Mission from May 5- 13 and see an Israel only JNF can show you. With over 100 years of experience as caretaker of the land of Israel, no one knows Israel better than JNF. Arranged through JNF’s Travel & Tours Department, JNF missions allow participants to see a side of Israel that other trips don't, going above and beyond the classic tourist experience, giving a firsthand look at JNF’s critical work to help Israel in its continued growth and survival.

Days and nights will be filled with celebrations and ceremonies for Yom Hazikaron and Yom Ha’atzmaut. You will be there as Israel stops in its tracks to honor the memory of her fallen heroes and then share as the country rejoices in the anniversary of the modern State of Israel.

This mission will include:

  • Emotional ceremonies marking Yom Hazikaron and Yom Ha’Atzmaut
  • Briefings by top Israeli newsmakers and opinion leaders
  • Visits to new JNF communities in the Negev
  • Meetings with some of the newest Negev pioneers and visionaries
  • Tours of Ammunition Hill, Independence Hall and the Ayalon Institute
  • 5-star hotel accommodations

In addition to touring the entire country, travelers will learn about JNF's work for the land and people of Israel by meeting the modern-day pioneers who are making their home in new communities in the Negev; planting trees in forests in northern Israel that were destroyed by rocket-ignited fires during the 2006 war with Hezbollah; visiting JNF reservoirs that provide water to 1.5 million Israelis; and hearing how the security roads on the northern border make a real difference in the lives of the people who use them for safe travel.

“This is the kind of trip you take if you want to see Zionism in action,” said Maine resident Bob Harrisburg, national chair of the mission. “It is a magnificent time to be in Israel. This trip will show you how the nation was built and instill in the participants pride in the development, growth, and vision of a nation that’s only 60 years old.

“Anyone can take you to Israel; JNF will make you want to go back.”

Jewish National Fund (JNF) began in 1901 collecting coins in blue boxes to purchase land and return the Jewish people to their homeland. In over 106 years, JNF has evolved into a global environmental leader and become the central address for the land and people of Israel. JNF has planted 240 million trees. Built over 1,000 parks and recreational areas. Constructed security roads. Educated students around the world about Israel. Created new communities so that Jews from around the world would have a place to call home. Discovered drip irrigation and new means of growing plants under arid conditions, bringing green to the desert. Built over 190 reservoirs and water recycling centers, increasing Israel’s water supply by 10%.

As a United Nations NGO, JNF sponsors international conferences on desertification, shares afforestation techniques and funds research on arid land management. Is restoring northern Israel, making it home again to its residents. Is supporting Israel’s newest generation of pioneers by developing the Negev Desert, Israel’s last frontier.
