CLE Estate Planning Program

On Monday, June 2nd, JNF is hosting a CLE Program, Estate Planning and Cohabitation Agreements for Unmarried Couples, at the office of Bernstein Global Wealth Management, 1345 Avenue of the Americas in NYC. Cocktail reception is called for 5:30 - 6:30 pm and the CLE Program will be from 6:30 - 8:00 pm. This complimentary program is CLE accredited through New York Legal Assistance Group. JNFuture to host Shabbat in the Park

Please join JNFuture for Shabbat in the Park Friday, June 20th at 7 PM at Sheep Meadow (66th Street and Central Park West) to celebrate the important connection between Shabbat, Israel and the environment.

Shabbat in the Park is the first formal Shabbat dinner to be held in Central Park, bringing together New York City’s young leaders to recognize the important environmental work that JNF promotes in Israel and the United States. Special guest speaker, US Congressman Anthony D. Weiner, gourmet food and wine, and live entertainment.

JNF hosted it’s Society Members at a cocktail reception featuring guest speaker the Honorable Dalia Itzik, Speaker of the Israeli Knesset.

Fran & Glenn Schor, LI Board members hosted a dessert reception at their home. Guest Speaker Dr. Yossi Olmert discussed Israel, security, and the role of JNF. Over $30,000 was raised for the Hevel Shalom-Ze'elim Security Road adopted by the LI Region

JNF participated in a 60th Anniversary Salute to Israel Event at the Friedberg JCC. Over 20 synagogues as well as Jewish organizations and vendors presented discussions, musical programs, and activities related to Israel.

In a partnership with the Long Island Philharmonic, Capital One, and The Holocaust Center of Nassau County, JNF participated in the Long Island Philharmonic Chamber Players Concert: Behind the Silence, Treasure from the Ashes, a concert of music written by composers during the Holocaust. President Emeritus, Mel Ruskin spoke about the work of the JNF. Approximately 150 people attended this moving program

Israel@60 Celebration in Westchester: The Jewish National Fund was a participant at this event on April 6th. Organized by the Westchester Jewish Conference the celebration drew over 2,500 attendees. Bands, dancing, exhibits, vendors, and children's activities made this day extremely exciting. The Israeli Consul General gave the keynote speech. Most elected local and state representatives were represented.

Please join the Long Island Philharmonic and Jewish National Fund on April 13th, for a premiere benefit performance of an extraordinary program, Behind the Silence Treasure from the Ashes. This live concert of chamber music and art celebrates the remarkably courageous artists who lived under Nazi rule, some of whom perished in the camps during the Holocaust. The program features moving and powerful chamber music by Gideon Klein, Viktor Ullman, Erwin Schulhoff and Alexander Zemlinsky along with art and poetry by children who lived and died under Nazi rule. This concert is being performed in conjunction with Holocaust Remembrance Day. This is a unique event, not to be missed.

JNFuture, the gateway for the next generation to JNF, hosted Greenlight: A Countdown to Green Sunday at M 1-5 in Tribeca. More than 200 people were in attendance and raised funds for JNF’s Green Sunday campaign.

On Sunday, March 16th, Greater New York held its annual Green Sunday Phone-a-thon for JNF’s environmental and community development work in Israel. There were 160 volunteers in attendance, who helped to make phone calls and stuff envelopes to donors throughout the New York City area. Green Sunday has already raised over $50,000 to date! For Ari Jonas, giving comes naturally. Ari, 12, son of Linda and Rodger Jonas and older brother of Jordy, 7, from East Setauket, NY has raised over $4,000 over the last two years for Jewish National Fund of Greater New York for Green Sunday, the national community campaign phone-a-thon for JNF’s environmental and community development work in Israel.

The 17th Annual Tribute to the late Reverend Doctor Martin Luther King, Jr., honored Dr. Eric J. Cooper, President and Founder of the National Urban Alliance. Trees were planted in his name in the Doctor Martin Luther King Forest in Israel.

The Greater New York Women’s Alliance presented a series of four lectures highlighting Jewish National Fund: Not Just Trees Anymore. The last in the series was a breakfast featuring Dr. Yossi Olmert, well-known expert on the modern Middle East, who presented An Insider’s Update on Israel’s Challenges in the Middle East. Members of the Women’s Alliance interact with likeminded women who connect to the people of Israel on many levels. The Alliance gives these women the opportunity to share their passions with each other and their counterparts in Israel.

Welcome! Michael Feinman, Greater New York Zone Director

Michael began his development career at UJA-Federation of New York where he spent 10 years working in various development capacities ending as Campaign Director for the Trades and Professions Division managing a $5 million campaign.

In 2002, Michael joined the New York Region of the Anti-Defamation League as Director of Development where he managed a $10 million campaign.

Michael is a graduate of the University of Maryland with a B.A. in Communications with a minor in Jewish History and also holds a Masters Degree in Social Work from Yeshiva University.  At Temple Israel of the City of New York, Michael was a member of the Board of Trustees and served as Co-Chair of the Fund for the Future and the Development Committee. In addition, Michael was the Co-President of the PTA for The Manhattan New School/P.S. 290.

Michael and his wife Patti live in Manhattan and have two daughters Jordyn, age 11 and Jamie, age 9.

One million dollars for the Be’er Sheva River Park Project

On Purim, JNF’s CEO Russell F. Robinson accepted a bequest check of over one million dollars for the Be’er Sheva River Park Project from Juliette Levin, the attorney representing the estate of Ella Mollov Rubinstein. Ella, a professional educator from Brooklyn, NY was remembered as a concerned and generous soul whose humility and magnanimity were the cornerstone of her success. Ella’s memory will live on in her generosity and good deeds and in her final act of chesed.

GNY Women’s Alliance

The GNY Women’s Alliance will host a breakfast featuring Dr. Yossi Olmert, Middle East Scholar and brother of Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert. Dr. Olmert will present: An Insider’s Update on Challenges in the Middle East.

Holocaust Concert

Jewish National Fund, with the generous support of North Fork Bank, will present a special performance by the Long Island Philharmonic of works by seminal composers who were victims of the Holocaust. The concert will take place on Sunday, April 13th at 7 p.m. at the North Shore Synagogue in Syosset. A pre-concert reception with the performers will be available to major donors.

JNFuture Celebrates Tu B’Shvat

To ring in Tu B’Shvat, the New Year for trees, members of JNFuture and their friends gathered at the JNF National Office on January 22nd for a very special wine and desert reception. While enjoying gourmet crepes, authentic rugelach and wines from Israel, attendees enjoyed a presentation from Shai Baitel, a JNF partner in the Or Movement. Shai discussed the importance of JNF’s Blueprint Negev project and efforts to build strong, lasting Jewish communities in the south of Israel. The evening marked another great event for JNFuture, bringing together friends and fun while promoting environmental and community development in Israel.

Long Island Green Sunday

The Long Island Region held its annual Green Sunday Event at the offices of EKN Financial Services. Chairmen Don Davret and Perry Finkelman helped organize this successful fundraiser resulting in the collection of $50,000 in donations. About 100 children and adults worked hard making phone calls and stuffing envelopes. LI Board members added to the merriment of the day by donating items for "goody bags" and raffle prizes.

Tikkun Olam

A Tikkun Olam fair was recently held in Hollis Hills. Jonathan Brody, New York Campaign Executive, participated and manned the JNF booth where guests came to learn about the JNF programs in Israel. The children were very intrested in the Plant Your Way to Israel program. Go Neutral was another very popular topic. Each person that came to the booth received a new JNF tzdekah box.

Advocacy Training Workshop

The JNF New York Region was pleased to welcome David Olesker, Executive Director of the Jerusalem Center for Communication and Advocacy Training. Mr. Oleskeer provided a workshop on the techniques and skills of Israel Advocacy to members of the JNF Professional Circle. David skillfully explained the creative techniques on how to answer challenging and difficult questions on Israel.
