Jewish National Fund

Welcome to My Personal Page

For my bat mitzvah I have chosen to raise money for a very special bomb shelter in Sderot, Israel. This shelter was built by an organization called Jewish National Fund (JNF). JNF began as a dream in 1901 to reestablish a homeland in Israel for Jewish people everywhere. In the years since, JNF has made the dream a reality by greening the desert with millions of trees, building thousands of parks, building vital security projects like this bomb shelfter, creating new communities and cities for generations of Israelis to call home, bolstering Israel’s water supply, and helping develop innovative arid-agriculture techniques.

During 2012 my family went to Israel and I became very aware of the dangers to border communities like Sderot. For more than eight years Sderot has been pounded by rocket fire from terrorists in Gaza. When a rocket is launched people only have 15 seconds to get to a bomb shelter. Parents started keeping their kids inside their houses all the time. The kids in Sderot have grown up sad, bored and scared!

But now they have a safe place to go, the JNF Indoor Recreation Center. It is really cool and big. It is about 20,000 square feet and has a cafe, little kid play area, a huge inflatable- kind of like a big moon walk, a long rock climbing wall, video games, computer room, small soccer field, and a private room for birthday parties. Recently they even opened a theatre and teen disco room. More than 200 kids a day use the Center.

JNF worked with engineers from the Israel Defense Forces to make many of the rooms bomb shelters. People can get into these rooms within 15 seconds. But what is really neat is that the rooms don't look like shelters.

Even though it is already built, it is still very expensive to operate and it needs our help to keep it open.
Please take a couple minutes to look at the video I downloaded.  I held a fundraiser earlier this year for Sderot, and will also donate a significant amount of my own money from my bat mitzvah.  I hope you will join me by making a donation to help the children in Sderot.

Thank you,
Carly
