Summer camp is my happy place! I have been lucky enough to get to go to Camp Wise for the past 5 years! However, there are children living in Sderot, Israel (near the Gaza strip), who cannot even go outside to play, let alone go to camp. Their town faces daily rocket attacks and the kids living in Sderot can never be more than 15 seconds from a bomb shelter. This means they cannot go to a playground, play any sports, go to camp, or hang out at a mall with their friends. So the Jewish National Fund began a massive project: it has built the largest indoor playground in Israel in Sderot. The 21,000 square foot Indoor Recreational Center opened in 2009 to provide Sderot’s youth with a place to have fun, hang out with friends, and be "normal" kids! The Sderot Indoor Rec Center contains just some of the following: -Recreational and exercise facilities for children ages 16 and under -Jungle gym equipment -Soccer field and volleyball court -Rock climbing wall -Snack area and gift shop -Movie and television area -Disco -Swing sets and more! In addition, there are three therapy rooms to help children suffering from trauma.
For my Mitzvah Project, it is my goal to raise a minimum of $1,000 to help the Jewish National Fund directly impact the lives of the children of Sderot. Please help me provide the children of Sderot with the chance to simply be kids.
Please contact me if you have any questions. Thank you for supporting Jewish National Fund’s Sderot Indoor Playground and for participating in my Mitzvah Project. I will keep you posted on my progress in helping the Sderot children. To send a donation by regular mail, make all checks payable to Jewish National Fund and send them to me. Please contact me for my address.
