Baseball In Israel sponsored by JNF

What is Baseball In Israel? To start with, what is JNF? JNF, the Jewish National Fund, helps Israel with all of its non-political projects. This one deals with baseball. Most of the baseball fields in Israel are in terrible condition. The JNF is helping Israel restore existing fields and build new fields for recreational leagues for kids in Israel. Also, Israel is trying to create a World Baseball Classic team where Israeli and American players who are Jewish can play for the Israeli team. This privilege will be for players such as Shawn Green of the New York Mets who is Jewish, and maybe one day, me too!

Why Baseball?

Baseball is a game that teaches sportsmanship as well as the physical part, helping with hand-eye coordination. Yogi Berra, a great catcher, once said, "Baseball is ninety percent mental. The other half is physical." I have loved baseball forever; the first game I ever went to was when I was two years old. I am a big Atlanta Braves fan, and when I heard of JNF's new plan, I knew I this was the perfect Mitzvah project for me. If you still do not think that baseball is important, listen to what columnist George Will had to say, "If baseball is just a game, then the Grand Canyon is just a hole in Arizona!"

How you can help

My goal is to raise $5,000.00. When I raise that amount of money, they will put a plaque on the field recognizing that I have raised enough money to be considered a "Bases" donor. However, I cannot do this alone. I need your help to help me reach my goal. Any donation is appreciated. If you donate at least $18.00, you will receive from me a special pen imprinted with "EVAN'S JNF PROJECT BASEBALL" and with a baseball stress ball at the top of the pen. You can donate by clicking on the link on the right that says "Make A Donation", or you can send a check payable to JNF to me at my address, which is 101 Burdette Road, Atlanta, GA. 30327. I am also excited that my grandparents, Nana Arlene and Papa Walter Wildstein have agreed to match whatever amount I raise for this project!
